Hue Imperial City Day Tour: Perfume River, Citadel and Royal Tombs

The Nguyen emperors ruled Vietnam from Hue for 143 years.

Délka zájezdu: 9 hodin

Hue Imperial City Tour: Perfume River Boat, Imperial Citadel, Khai Dinh and Tu Duc Royal Tombs

Délka zájezdu: 9 hodin

Hue served as Vietnam's imperial capital from 1802 to 1945 and the Perfume River was at the centre of everything. The city's UNESCO World Heritage sites line its banks: pagodas, citadels, palaces, and the elaborate tombs the Nguyen emperors built for themselves while they were still alive.

This day covers the essential circuit: the Perfume River by boat to Thien Mu Pagoda, the Imperial Citadel and Kien Trung Palace at its heart, then the afternoon at the royal tombs of Khai Dinh and Tu Duc with stops at the craftspeople who have supplied Hue's temples with incense and conical hats for generations.

Časté dotazy k tomuto zájezdu

Khai Dinh Tomb (early 20th century) is compact and theatrical: a steep hillside site covered inside with mosaic and gilded lacquer, blending Nguyen court design with French baroque influences. Tu Duc Tomb (mid-19th century) is the opposite: a vast, garden-like complex built as a personal retreat, with a lake, pavilions, and a contemplative landscape. They are the two most visited royal tombs in Hue for good reason.
A walled complex on the north bank of the Perfume River, built beginning in 1805 for the Nguyen Dynasty. It contains the Imperial Enclosure (Dai Noi) and within it the Forbidden Purple City — the emperor's private quarters. Much of the complex was damaged during the 1968 Tet Offensive and ongoing restoration has been returning it to its original state. Kien Trung Palace, the emperor's private residence, was reconstructed and reopened in 2021.
The Huong River (Song Huong) takes its name from the flower-scented grasses and plants that grow along its upper banks and drift into the water. The name has been part of Hue's identity since the Nguyen lords first established their seat here in the 17th century.
Modest dress is required at all sites on this tour: shoulders and knees covered at pagodas, the citadel, and tombs. Light, breathable cotton is best for the Hue heat. Comfortable walking shoes — the citadel and tomb grounds involve some uneven surfaces.
Yes. The citadel grounds and royal tomb parks are spacious and easy to walk. The boat trip on the Perfume River tends to go down well with younger guests. The craft village stops add variety. Let us know ages at booking.
